Who's the newest member of the three beer club? ALICIA IS! Alicia (now Alicia Stepp-Woody), has been oozing generosity since way back in 2002 when she bought me a Pyramid Amber. Then she came back for the sequel in 2006 with a cider, and now the trilogy is complete with a few bottles of Shock Top Belgian White beer that she recently bought me.

I was surprised to find out that Shock Top is made by Michelob. Really? could it be? Then I remembered that I heard a story recently that Michelob was putting out a whole line of 'craft' beers in order to appeal to a whole new market (apparently, they want to appeal to a market that likes good beer). Naturally, I was a little hesitant about this beer, because I figured that their main aim for selling these new beers wasn't to actually make them taste delicious, but to spend a lot of money marketing them.

To my delight, I was quite pleased. While it didn't contain the complexity or richness of an actual Belgian wit beer, it was still very smooth and very drinkable. Not nearly as wheaty as many wit beers, but citrusy and a touch of spice. In a word: 'yum'.

Anyway. I drank most of these up at a good friends dinner party. This may be one of our last beautiful weekends of summer (first day of autumn actually) we'll have here in Minnesota until next April, so I made sure to make the best of it. The beer was perfect. Thanks Alicia!
